傳顧愷之《女史箴圖》Admonitions Scroll
mid-seventh century ,now in British Museum
The earliest extant Chinese portrait is this Admonitions Scroll. It was brought to the British Museum from Qin Court in the late nineteenth century. In 2001, many scholars in Chinese painting came from all over the world to discuss some problems of the scroll. We believe this scroll was made in the middle of 7th. The painter was familiar with the ink brush of Gu. The scroll told us many rules to become a great wife of emperor. The rules included both inside aspects and outside ones. To be the canon of Chinese figure painting, Gu Kaizhi created a special ink brush, called 春蠶吐絲描,to describe the motion of body's action.
